Oral blog Entry - A Diploma Lecture of week 6 - Unions in New Zealand

Union is workers organized into a voluntary association to further their mutual interests with respect to wages, hours working conditions and other matters of interest to the workers. So, unions are voluntary, people can choose if you want to join. If people join together, they will get more treatment in pay rates, hours of work and working conditions, such as holiday sick pay and workplace safety. So, there are about 330,000 New Zealanders belonging to a union; what’s more, 51.5% of New Zealanders'union members are women. After joining the union, people can vote for their leaders who can help them to be treated, such fair pay, fair working conditions, safe and healthy workplaces and equality of opportunities. Without a union, you can't do anything when your rights have been infringed in your workplace.
